My new book, Approaches to Discourse Markers, (Hituzi publisher) will be on sale! This book includes introduction of primary approaches to DMs (Schiffrin, Fraser, and Brinton); synchronic and diachronic studies on DMs; proposed mechanisms for the development of DMs (grammaticalization, constructionalization, cooptation, etc.), and more! Hope it will be one of your ‘study-aid books’ for Discourse Analysis and Discourse Markers.

In the fall semester, the graduate class dealt with Introduction to Critical Discourse Analysis/Studies by Wodak and Meyer’s volume. We also read two CDS papers (One on ‘moe kyara’). We found that the CDS approach was useful especially when attempting to explore some social issues (related to ethnicity, gender, etc.).
