Biography

Noriko Onodera

After graduating from Joshi Gakuin High School and Parramatta High School in NSW, Australia (Rotary Youth Exchange Program), I studied at Sophia University (B.A.), Saitama University Graduate School (M.A.) and Japan Women’s University Graduate School (doctoral course). Taking a leave of absence from the last institute, I entered Georgetown University Graduate School where I earned a Ph.D. in Linguistics in 1993. In 1996 I joined Department of English, Aoyama Gakuin University, as an assistant professor. Currently a professor since 2009. I have also taught at Japan Women’s University, Kyoritsu Women’s University, and Saitama University Graduate School as an adjunct professor.

In 2017, I was involved in foundation of HiSoPra* Research Group together with Hiroyuki Takada (Gakushuin University), Kaoru Horie (Nagoya University), Michi Shiina (Hosei University), Ryoko Suzuki (Keio University) and others. (HiSoPra* : HIstorical SOciolinguistics and PRAgmatics)

In 2020 and 2021, I served the Vice-President at the Pragmatics Society of Japan. In 2022, 23, and 24, a councillor.

I am on the editorial board for Journal of Historical Pragmatics, East Asian Pragmatics, and Ninchi Gengogaku Kenkyu (The Journal of the Japanese Cognitive Linguistics Association). Until 2019, I was on the board for Goyooron Kenkyu (Studies in Pragmatics) as well. Until September, 2022, I served an Associate Editor for IPrA Bibliography of Pragmatics online.
