The lunar eclipse I didn't see

    Henley in Arden, Warks, Sept. 16, 1997

It was said that the earth's shadow
Would fall on the moon today at 18:00 hours
Totally obscuring it from view.

So, at the scheduled time,
I dutifully climbed to
The site of the prehistoric settlement
To witness the moon
That should not have been.

It didn't disappoint me.
There it wasn't in all its splendor.
Not in the eastern sky;
Exactly where it wasn't supposed to have been,
Nor in any other.

Now I am one with those invisible lunar creatures
Who do not see us on nights of our eclipse.
