講演題目: Save the Children, an NPO, and the Syrian Refugee Situation

Keiko Tamura, Project Manager (Child Protection), after working in the private sector, with JICA and UNDP, Keiko joined Save the Children in 2013. Ms. Tamura is currently working for Syria Response in Turkey as a Project Manager in child protection.

The refugee situation developed there following the outbreak of civil war in Syria. The war began on April, 2011 when the Syrian army fired on protestors, killing hundreds. Since then, the conflict has claimed more 120,000 lives. More than three million people have fled the country and become refugees.

Save the Children is an NPO which was started in Britain in 1911, and with its partners, operates in 120 countries. Today, it seeks to support Syrian children affected most by the conflict. Save the Children tries to provide a safe space for them to regain a sense of normality and to reduce their distress. Ms. Tamura will describe her background with JICA, UNDP, and Save the Children, her intercultural experiences working for these charities, and the Syrian refugee situation.
